Should scientists clone humans? IMO induced post

Cloning is the process of creating a genetic replica of an organism. The clone WILL NOT be an exact replica of the original organism, because the behaviour of an organism is largely governed by environmental factors, and the physique is also affected to a large extent. Unless a clone receives exactly the same stimuli, in EVERY single area the original person receives during its lifetime is the same, you will not get an exact copy replica.

Clones in Nature known as twins or triplets become more like exact copies becasue they recieve much of the same stimuli.

It is unknown whether the major factor which decides the characteristics of a clone is the environment and stimuli or the genes. But it is definite that they both play significant roles.

This also relates to will Clones be abused, used as cheap labour used as soldiers used as organs used to expiriment because they may not be regarded as real humans.

Maybe scientists should clone animals like dolphins and seals, ya know. But under a strong ethic code cos if they clone a dolphin why not to clone a hundred chinchillas to make some fur coats?
Cloning can be useful in transplants and stuff like that but highly dangerous.

Anyway, nobody will stop that in the near future, scientists (previously honored by a mad millionaire) may be cloning humans and starting a new era.

Animals have allready been cloned, see Dolly the sheep.

I think cloning is crazy. Isn't this place crowded enough? Anyway, WHY would you want someone that was so much like another person. I think one is enough to go around.

Geezzzz.....who do these people think they are anyway? They could spend their time and talent on something else.

Well, I meant, seriously cloning to avoid the loss of our dolphins or bears, not just experimenting and getting commercial potential for an enterprise.
Maybe they may recover some extinct animals like Dodo.

I am not sure I have an informed enough opinion on whole cloning, but I am for the cloning of organs and stuff to help with the people on the waiting lists for viable donors

I wonder how you found this post, tblog must be search engine friendly.

Overcrowding is a factor as well as jobs for example you clone the best computer programmer 1000000000 times teach him his whole life and now all other computer programmers are obsolete and are fired,or you find the strongest man clone him 1000000000 times and train him his entire life then all other manual laberours are obsolete and are fired.

Hey Kupov,

I think cloning should be done simply because, well, we can. I for one am seriously curious to see if a cloned human will have a 'mind' (as you can't clone that since it's not supposed to be physical) and if he really will be similar to the original. I think some things can only be discovered this way. Maybe the secret of how life came about could also be brought to light.

But as with any other device of science this has huge potential for misuse. It'll probably become another atom bomb (nuclear power plant or making nuclear deserts) but I think people should go ahead.

uh oh... cat fight,

ok cloning...

its bad, not just morally bad, (which it is), but hte genetic code is all screwed and unstable, so the life span is waaaaaaay shorter.

here's an idea, how bout scientists let nature play its course and stop trying to be God?

I don't know enough about cloning to voice many opinions on it. Once a being can sustain its own life, as I assume a full human clone would, it would need to be protected as any other life here does.

protected? why? Clones will be used as soldiers and they will NOT be humans because the capacity to learn will be stripped from them, meaning they can never learn how to fire a gun even though it is so simple, they will be installed with the knowledge they need example if they are manual labereours they will not be able to do anything else.

Humans will hate clones for taking every job on the planter and we will uprise and kill many and they cannot fight back,

This is what I think will happen if humans are ever mass cloned.

Do you have the scientific background to say that it is possible to ever mass produce clones that have the learning capabilities stripped from them, while still giving them the intelligence to actually do useful work? Neither do I.

If intelligence is stripped, then they are just robots with blood circulating instead of oil. All animals have some level of intelligence, and so then these clones wouldn't even be able to be considered animals.

last post should read "learning capabilities stripped" instead of intelligence.... although I think intelligence includes being able to learn.

The entire idea would be to make clones into robots.

Also if you think some greenpeace orginization will come and free the clones you are mistaken, the general public can easily be scared into thinking enslaving clones is good and an anti terrorist measure or similar nonsence.

It allready happens now.

theres still lots of issues dat need 2 b worked out b4 cloning humans can b dun properly like da fact dat all clones dat hav bin made so far age fasterlike dolly the sheep had severe arthritis not long afta being created

well den i tink dat if clones became widley used they wud b abused jus look at the minoritys we already hav in this world being black ive experianced how sum ppl treat minoritys and even though ppl r gtin beta since othas wud c clones as not being truly human they wud get abused by most of da human population wich, i tink wud not b morally rite

Why not, Clones would not feel pain and they would not care, you cannot abuse a child you are unable to affect, it would be like calling him names through soundproof glass.

but pain is an essential part of the way our body takes care of itself it wud b necessary in clones so that they cud tell if they were say on fire or sumtin orelse u wud b foreva havin 2 get new ones once they damage themselves if they had pain they wud b able 2 last longa

Nope if they felt pain then we would be cruel in allowing them to live in pain.

Pain is a necissary wat to cope with a wild enviroment, simply do not keep the clones near danger.

but then the clone wud need 2 b watched all the time it wud need 2 b watched lik u wud watch a small child

No it would be perfectly able to do anything you wanted,it would just not tell you if it was in pain, and it would not EVER make any rash desicions

then sum ppl wud missuse them if they cud not feel any pain, do anything you wanted and not make any rash decisions what wud b stopiin ppl from using them to assasinate important people or using them to steal or sumtin

I personally don't like the idea of cloning. I don't know why I don't really like it, I think it's just a wrong thing to do,, like my conscience is saying it's bad or something. I think that it COULD get used into something useful, but I've seen the previews of "the island" and seen the making of it and it seems pretty freaky IF we let cloning into our society.

Umm so no one else thinks that we should try cloning humans just for the heck of it eh..

Again, I think we should because we can and because that would be a darned fine way of figuring out some secrets of life. Like someone else observed, we don't know if cloned beings would have minds/souls/consciousness/whatever-you-wanna-call-its because we can only recreate the physical. So we should create them to answer our questions.

Just like the atom bomb and drugs and practically every discovery in science you'll find there are both good and bad applications and it's a necessary risk.

Cloned armies.. have you seen the movie "The Sixth Day".

It would not be ethical to use clones as cheap labour because that would only be demeaning the human value. We have robots, let's use them.

posted by: BareKnuckleBxer (reply)
post date: 08.06.05 (5:37 pm)

for one thing, clones aren't robots, and unless you give them drugs, they can feel pain, and react, and make decisions just like regular human beings, its an exact replica of the mother cell. that dosen't mean its an empty hole

Robots are expensive to build and maintain and these clones by the time technology advanced far enough would not be humans except in shape.

I do not believe the clones will be able to think once we get them right. They will simply be shells programmed to do one duty.
