If God is omnipotent then how/why does he give us choices

If an omnipotent God controls our lives and everything that has happened/will happen in our lives, then obviously Religion,Heaven and Hell are meaningless. Becasue then Good and evil are meaningless and since you were never fated to be a Christian in you'r lifetime then is it fair God sends you to hell because of a Choice he made.

Could not an omnipotent God freely choose to place limits upon Himself? Also, an all-powerful God can choose to grant freedom to His subjects, the freedom to accept or reject Him.

Yes I agree he can choose, if this God is indedd omnipotent he can choose what freedoms he grants us however if he is truly all powerfull in the sense of all controlling which is the definition I used, then how is it fair God sends you to hell for a choice he made.

Such is not a description of God that I accept or want. To control someone is certainly not to love that person. I am repelled by someone who wants to control me. But, I am drawn to Someone who truly loves me.

dude, he doesn't control, he gives us FREE rein. but he tries to guide us to the path he wants us to take.
this is like the "how can omniscience and free will coexist" thread in debate-topics.com.
the thing is, you have to underestand, that eventhough God knows ahead of time what you're going to do (be christian or not), he knows because you will choose it. it's not a one sided relationship, it's an equal balanced relationship

Kupov, God isn't the puppeteer in this situation. It's hard to see people dying and think, "why does God let this happen?" God gave people free will to choose to come to Him or not, and everything that happens, happens for a reason. God is not this "all-controlling" being as you have said. He chooses not to be the puppeteer of His people because if we had no choice to come to Him or not, then there would be no reason to live, because He would be controlling our lives.

Have you ever heard of the bonobo? It's the CLOSEST link between an ape, and a human and literally, NOBODY knows of them. They are more intelligent than standard chimps, but less intelligent than standard humans. They use computers, know sign language, are capable of performing simple daily tasks, and a lot of other things that are very advanced for a creature other than a human. They have feelings, thoughts, opinions, and everything else humans have. The ONLY reason that they cannot communicate through speech is because they don't have as advanced vocal capabilities as humans have, it's not that they're "stupid".
We originated from these creatures. We have their DNA. We have their life characteristics. We are, in essence, a new and improved version of them, whether people would like to admit it or not is a personal choice.
There was, and is no God. There was never an Adam, or an Eve. There was never an Ark. No one lived inside of a whale. The sea was not parted. And, nobody created shit... in just a few days. Science is not evil. There is no afterlife. There is no savior, and there is no such thing as sin. When we die, we DIE, end of story. There is no judgment day made by the proverbial God.
Life is not about living in fear. I refuse to squander my entire time on this earth with the thought of someone watching over my shoulder, waiting for me to fuck up, or defy.

Yes i went to the site and i do know of what you speak of, but thats not the point, I KNOW science proves Gid wrong but I like to argue using the perspective of a xian, because it is easy for them to deny science and less easy for them to deny their own scripture.

God gives you the "freedom" to choose not to believe just as others believe. Just like when you get up in the morning..you choose to brush your teeth or not brush your teeth and there are consequenses if you choose not to brush your teeth. They will rot.
If you choose to not believe in God, then your soul will rot. However, it is your choice. God gives you that freedom.
By choosing to not believe, there are consequences. I believe you have that part figured out. :)

My mom said that there is no proof that there is no being watching over us. She says it's the religions themselves that are such a problem. Some religions use their powers for like political influence and stuff....
but, about the choice thing...it would be just DULL without free will and choices! Nobody wants a dull life! Yeah, I know, I'm just a little kid messing where i shouldn't. ^_^;;
